The Other Colonies Day Tour
Leave the din of the city behind and visit the other European Colonies along the west bank of the Ganges with Heritage Walk Calcutta. The trip will start in front of the Shyambazar Metro Station (Gate 4), where an AC transport will be waiting for you.
Our first stop is Chandannagar, the old French Colony. Here we will do a heritage walk along the older, not oft-explored parts of the city. Take a leisurely stroll along The Strand as we learn about the history Chandannagar.
From here, we will go to Chinsurah, the former Dutch Colony. On the way we will stop at the magnificent tomb of Susanna Ana Maria, a prominent philanthropist of her time, who had dubiously inspired Ruskin Bond’s Susanna’s Seven Husbands, and in turn the Bollywood movie Saat Khoon Maaf. This will be followed by a visit to the Dutch Cemetery, and a walk along the river to explore what remains of Chinsurah’s Dutch vestiges.
This will be followed by a visit to Hooghly Imambara, a beautiful mid-19th century structure by the Hooghly river, before having lunch near Bandel Church. After lunch, we will see Bandel Church, the oldest active Church in all of Bengal, followed by a visit to Hangsheswari Temple. The tour will end at the 13th century Dargah of Zafar Khan Gazi before we make our way back to Kolkata
